I took the 510 Amtrak Cascades train from Seattle’s downtown King St Station to Vancouver BC’s Pacific Central Station (there is a Vancouver in Washington state, slightly confusing!). The train took 4 hours, the 510 departing at 7:45 am, arriving at 11:45 am.
You can check in a bag 45 minutes prior to departure and then queue for your seat allocation. The train was three double-decker carriages with cars A and C having upstairs and downstairs allocated seating and car B being the refreshments car and also with unallocated sideways viewing chairs.
It was a slow leisurely journey which enabled me to see and appreciate the scenery of the waterways, mountains, bays and country side.
I saw seals swimming in Puget Sound and sea birds along the shore. The water looked very clear and was a cold 9 degrees Celsius.
We passed a plane on a train, minus its wings, just outside Seattle downtown. Boeing is up the road/tracks at Everett.
I am looking forward to doing the Boeing tour when I return to Seattle before flying back to Brisbane.
Once we arrived into Vancouver our bags were waiting for us on the platform and going through Canadian customs was orderly and quick.
